Black and African American Women Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence

With the start of our new schedule, today we bring you an empowering conversation between Angela Blount and Chevelle Moss- Savage about African American and Black women survivors of IPV.  They share their personal stories of IPV, boundaries of reporting, accessing services, cultural and societal factors, and healing from trauma. These two incredible women are both survivors as well as activists in the field.

Angela Blount is on the Board for the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance as well as on the board for the Virginia Anti-Violence Project.

Chevelle Moss- Savage, MHS, HS-BCP, is on the board for the Virginia Anti-Violence Project but also wears many hats at Virginia State University. She is the Outreach Coordinator as well as a Resident in Counseling (LPC), the Safe Zone Coordinator, Is the Chair for VSU’s LGBTQ Advisory Council, is the Advisor for Rainbow Soul, and also the Advisor for Active Minds.

LGBTQ Inclusion on College Campuses

We continue our series today on the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the mental health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer individuals. Today, we invite Chevelle  Moss-Savage from Virginia State University and Ted Lewis from University of Richmond to talk about the impact of prejudice and discrimination on college youth who identify as LGBTQ and the need for inclusive services.

Advocates for Virginia Youth- LGBTQ Homelessness

We continue our series on the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the mental health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer individuals. Today, we invite Alex Wagaman and advocates of Richmond youth: Aiyanna and Aaron to discuss the prevalence and impact of homelessness on youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.

Last week we started the series talking about the impact of prejudice on the mental health of LGBTQ individuals and the impact of prejudice and discrimination that results in lack of access to appropriate medical care. Today we are focusing on homelessness among youth and young adults.

Today we continue our series on the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the mental health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer individuals. Today, we invite back Afton Bradley of the Fan Free Clinic to further discuss health care concerns, disparities, and discrimination that face the members of our community that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. We open the show with Jenn Gallienne talking about current research and finish with Afton discussing Fan Free Clinic services as well as some exciting services that will be offered in Spring of 2015.
